#144: Dawntrail Story Part 7: We Urned This

We're back on our story grind! Mostly, anyway. There's a little discourse about the current state of affairs of the game, and we definitely plead for a live letter which was announced probably two hours after we wrapped our recording, so we won't cover that here. The bulk of the episode is focused on the level 95 questline where we finally earn that last gusher to qualify Wuk Lamat to be Dawnservant. It gets a bit grim at the end, necessarily, and there are obviously spoilers for this bit of the story up through ... well, the thing with the urns.

#53: Our First Farewell

#34: 2019 Retrospective - Part 1

Hello 2020 and goodbye to 2019, you were here for way too long. In the first of our two part retrospective we examine the first half of 2019, starting with the series of 4.5 patches, Requiem for Heroes. While it feels like the 4.X series ended years ago, 2019 gave us some juicy story that gets even better after you finish Shadowbringers (SB2).

After we talk about ships crashing into walls like birds to a window, we soar into our favorite 4.5 changes and wonder how long 2019 really was because none of us remember it starting. We reflect on the split nature of the story as we saw comatose friends trying to distract from a literal war with a massive imperial threat, and discuss how that did (or did not) work for us.

Peppered within the story chat are some discussions about game systems introduced 12 short months ago that we also assumed were there all along, or at least for several years, and a couple brief attempts by Pan to drag us into the present by talking about Realm Reborn relics. Or… something.

#19: In Memoriam

As we hit the home stretch for the Shadow.. Blood.. whatever… expansion we take some time to look back on our experience with Storm..Stormy...SB1. Like a gentle restaurant manager trying to tell you that ratty jeans are not appropriate attire for a server we approach some final constructive feedback for 4.x with a hearty helping of compliment sandwiches for the expansion we hardly knew. From story beats that landed (and that didn’t) to #JusticeForFordola to our favorite game design changes we give the expansion a rousing sendoff.

There’s also a bit of chat on party finder etiquette, and some simple lifehacks for staying at your best and most fresh as you power through all that this enormous new expansion has to offer. Finally we get what is unquestionably the worst NPC name we’ve ever seen and everyone one of us just butchers it horribly. With a full 24 hour maintenance coming up you’ll need your XIV fix somehow, so why not spend an hour or so with us?

We got a huge dump of news and reveals for Shadowbringers, though we had to wade through a pretty rough stream to get there. We break down our favorite changes from the massive list of announcements and speculate on what we think we’ll see that was announced yet. We talk a lot about job and role changes, new quest formats, and several other exciting tidbits from the latest producer live letter.

We have some shared emotions with the FFXIV production crew, who are all exhausted in the lead-up to the game, while some (one) of us is just hung over because he can’t say no to free shots, and we try to recreate a little bit of the technical difficulties they were so (un)fortunate to experience.

Finally we tuck in to the penultimate NPC pronunciation for this season (apparently!) and talk a little bit about what we’ve been doing in the game, which at this point is really just odds and ends. Is it 5.0 time yet?

All three hosts are here this week and we are ready to give you the hottest news from the most recent Letter from the Producer, but first (After? Both?), we share what we’ve been doing for the past couple weeks. There’s been a lot of birds recently.

Once we fully jump into the Letter, we question how glasses really work in the game. Is it magic? What are they hanging on? We also discuss what they could do for the upcoming rework for job skills and wonder how merging the MP/TP bars will change the game. Kristen and Lilli find out they need to start working on PVP before the horse mounts are gone forever. You have until 5.1, so start working on it now!

We thought we had nothing to say about 4.56, and we were correct! However we do spend a very long time discussing the lack of in game set up for SB2, and our predictions as to what may happen next! We should all write for Squeenix.

The final fanfest is here, and all our questions are not answered, but at least we had an interesting keynote that was not at all late! We share our thoughts on the gender exclusive races (not Ronso and Viera), and hope to see plenty of super custom Lion-O’s running around! Get your dancing shoes ready for our next ranged DPS, dancer (duh)! We debate as to why there was no healer announced and wonder if it’s even worth it to add another one in.

4.56 is here, and gone. Seriously, story is like two minutes long. We also had a few other things release, but we’ll save that for the next episode.
It’s time to start saving your MGP for the Final Fantasy XV crossover event! It won’t be here forever, so have that stash ready!

Everyone’s finally doing things again! Patch 4.5 added plenty of new things for us to do, from story to Bacon Bread, a new Gate and Mahjong, we’ve done it all… Mostly! We teach you what it means to go left (PLEASE GO LEFT), and what to expect in 4.5 in this almost spoiler free episode. Kristen and Lilli spend patch day doing story and content together, while Pan continues crafting.

After our discussion on the new raids and primal, we share what our goals are before the new expansion, and some of us may be a bit too ambitious. We wonder why people get so mad on day one content from wiping too much, and explain how to not explain mechanics to the rest of the raid.

Kristen and Lilli recently joined the Pagos train and give some tips for those who may be more hesitant to go this late to the content.

It’s our spooptacular Halloween special! Which is to say our regularly scheduled fifth episode that happened to occur around the holiday. We talk about the haunting effects of the ongoing DDoS against Final Fantasy XIV which have been causing monstrous lag spikes and killing connections. Also we talk more about crafting and gathering (surprise!) and how scrips work as you approach endgame. Time to enjoy 4.4 as we move Four Point Fourward (seriously guys, enough with these puns)! Christy and Chip got a late start to the update, but Kristen stepped up with lots to share about the story and the new raid tier!

We talk about what we experienced in the past couple weeks, business trips and all. Chip is super salty about... Lighthouse? Pretty much everything, actually. Speaking of salt, the community still seems a bit displeased with the companion app, so we discuss what improvements the app could use to be seen in a better light.
